The UK Petroleum Industry Association (UKPIA) has launched a revised Safe Loading Pass Scheme, in order to help control and monitor the risks associated with loading road tankers at fuel distribution terminals.
The safety scheme has undergone a industry-wide review from representatives including the Tank Storage Association and the Freight Transport Association, in addition to the UKPIA.
The scheme was established in 1989. The majority of oil companies now subcontract their fuel distribution to specialist hauliers, while other tank storage companies now operate fuel distribution terminals.
The scheme will be managed by the FTA, on behalf of the UKPIA.
