An investigation into the government’s efforts to tackle the UK’s shortage of HGV drivers has been launched by the Transport Select Committee.
The committee’s inquiry will encompass a range of government departments but with a particular focus on how Department for Transport policies have affected workforce planning.
The committee will explore what effect the skills shortage is having on the logistics industry and the extent to which government policies have been successful in attracting a diverse workforce. Key industry issues such as the impact of Driver CPC on skills levels and the condition of roadside facilities for drivers will also be considered in relation to employee development and recruitment.
Both the RHA and FTA have voiced their support for the investigation.
