MPs and council leaders in the South West have spoken out to call for an end to ‘provincial under-funding’, claiming that the South West is getting a raw deal from transport funding.
The calls follow the publication of a report yesterday by the Transport Select Committee which suggested there is a significant funding bias towards London councils and projects.
MP Adrian Sanders, who represents the Torbay constituency in Devon and serves on the Transport Committee, warned that key South West infrastructure were vulnerable. Meanwhile Chairman of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership, Chris Pomfret, called for hand-outs from the Government to be ‘equitable’.
