Ineos Salt, the UK’s largest supplier of vacuum salt products, has renewed a warehousing and distribution contract with transport specialist CM Downton. Under the contract Downton will manage groupage and full-load distribution of palletised bagged products to Ineos Salt’s customers throughout the UK.
A business unit of Ineos Enterprises, part of the world’s largest manufacturer of chemical and oil products, Ineos Salt supplies a full range of products for most applications and industry needs including food salts, water softening salts, animal feed, industrial and chemical, and de-icing salts, and operates to ISO9001:2000 standard.
Downton has been working for Ineos Salt for the past two years and the latest contract extension has been awarded because of the successful operation the company has implemented during that time. Salt is processed, bagged and palletised at Ineos Salt’s facility in Runcorn, Cheshire. This is less than six miles from Downton’s local hub depot, which means that transport operations can be simplified with little wasted time or empty running. Downton manages up to 10 consignments each day with some deliveries made to customers direct from the factory and some consolidated through its Runcorn depot.
Downton’s Runcorn depot serves a number of industrial and food product manufacturers in the area. The depot is conveniently situated with links to the motorway network and easy access to customers such as Ineos Salt located on Merseyside, the Wirral and the M56 corridor. This enables Downton to configure and coordinate highly effective transport solutions for customers utilising its local resources and national network.
David Hutchings, Business Development Manager at CM Downton, said: “We have delivered an excellent service to Ineos Salt over the past couple of years and the extension builds on the relationship we have established. Our major warehousing and distribution facility in Runcorn is ideally located to serve companies in the North West region who need to get their products delivered across the UK quickly, efficiently and economically.”
