Safer Lorry Scheme figures released for first two months

Figures have been released indicating driver compliance levels since the rollout of the Safer Lorry Scheme.

Of 1,500 HGVs stopped during routine checks during October, 56 were found to be in breach of the scheme; down from 148 in September.

The scheme, which was launched by Mayor of London Boris Johnson on 1 September, demands that vehicles over 3.5 tonnes entering London are fitted with Class V (side close-proximity) and VI (front projection) mirrors and sideguards.
