Road user levy introduced for foreign lorries

A scheme has been introduced on 1 April aimed at making foreign-registered lorries pay to use British roads.

Vehicles weighing over 12 tonnes will have to pay £10 a day, or £1,000 a year, as part of a HGV Road User Levy.

UK lorries will have to initially pay the fee, but will be compensated through a reduction in vehicle excise duty.
