Road network investment “will decide our country’s future”, says Transport Minister

The Conservative Party has insisted that investment in the UK road network will be “the big thing that will decide our country’s future”. 

Transport minister Patrick McLoughlin said on 30 September at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester that the government had already committed over £9bn to local councils to help fix issues such problem roundabouts, slip-roads and potholes, and was looking to do more.

The transport minister also acknowledged that under-investment in the UK’s road network, which has gone on for many years, would not be fixed in just one parliament.
