Road haulage is “lifeblood” of British economy, says minister

Roads and freight minister Andrew Jones MP got behind the wheel of an HGV for the first time this week at the HORIBA-MIRA proving ground, and described the experience as “immensely valuable”.

He said his main goals as minister are to improve road safety and promote awareness of air pollution. He also stressed that freight transport is crucial to Britain, and is the “bread and butter” of the economy.

During his visit, Mr Jones also emphasised the need for education for both HGV drivers and cyclists, as well as further advances in truck safety technology.
