Road Haulage Association reacts to Calais crisis

The UK Government has been urged by the Road Haulage Association (RHA) to try and resolve the current situation in Calais.

Many HGV drivers have reported being harassed following a surge in attempts by migrants to enter the UK illegally.

In a statement, the RHA supported plans by the Government to commit more resources to the area, but believes more can be done.

“Operation Stack” was implemented this week, which saw parts of the M20 in Kent closed for 36 hours blocking lorries from crossing the Channel Tunnel. The RHA estimates that more than 2,500 vehicles were delayed under the measures, costing about £750,000 per day.
