Report suggests surge in fleet vehicle acquisition

The findings of the 2015 Overview of the Commercial Vehicle Industry report suggests that operators aim to purchase more new vehicles this year compared to 2014, indicating rising optimism across the industry.

The report – produced by Road Transport Media – found that operators of 51 or more vehicles plan to acquire 79 vehicles in 2015, up from an average of 65 in 2014.  Medium-sized hauliers (operating between 26 and 50 vehicles) are similarly optimistic, planning to buy an average of 5.3 vehicles a year, up from 3.6 in 2014.

According to the findings, Euro-6 vehicles have seen a remarkable uplift in the past twelve months, despite cost concerns, and now account for nine per cent of all vehicles run by UK operators.

The report also found that the most popular model is Daf (30 per cent) followed by Mercedes-Benz (19 per cent).
