Report reveals extent of road damage

It will take local councils 12 years to fix the current road maintenance backlog based on today’s budgets, according to a report conducted by the Asphalt Industry Alliance.

It is claimed that the cost of getting the local road network into acceptable condition now stands at a record £12bn – approximately £90m for each local authority.

Although more than 2 million potholes were filled in England and Wales this year, the AIA claimed that  the winter’s heavy rainfall has countered much of the work done.
