Parents don’t want their children to be truckers, says survey

More than 70 per cent of parents would not want their child to become a truck driver, according to a Twitter poll by the Freight Transport Association (FTA).

The poll, says the FTA, underlines a major perception problem in the industry which, alongside low wages and inadequate roadside facilities, is contributing to the driver shortage.

Other barriers highlighted by the FTA include a lack of vocational training for drivers and the cost of acquiring a licence.
