The Highways Agency (HA) expect that within months a permanent ban on HGVs overtaking on the M11 will be implemented.
Reduced congestion and improved journey times were observed when a trial of the ban took place on the uphill sections between junctions eight and nine. The ban is currently subject to completion of statutory procedures, but is expected to come into force in the next financial year.
Essex County Council had been lobbying the HA to introduce an overtaking ban on the A12, on which it claims people are being held up due to incidents involving lorries.
