Latest figures released by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s ‘JobsOutlook’ tracking survey state that nearly one in five employers is predicting a shortage of permanent driving roles in the run up to Christmas.
The same survey shows that 12 per cent are also concerned about a lack of agency drivers available.
Recruitment firm The Best Connection Group forecast that the situation could worsen in the coming weeks, with demand for drivers expected to “spike”.
The Road Haulage Association has voiced its concern over the figures, adding that the quality of drivers may also be dropping.
