New Safer Lorry Scheme introduced to protect pedestrians and cyclists

Boris Johnson has confirmed Britain’s first Safer Lorry Scheme will take effect from 1 September this year.

Transport for London (TfL) and London Councils have given the go ahead for a London-wide ban on all trucks over 3.5 tonnes that have not been fitted with additional safety equipment.

The ban will apply to all roads in Greater London with the exception of motorways and will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The maximum fine for a breach of the ban will be £1,000.
