New London commercial vehicle unit clamps down on driving offences

136 HGVs have been stopped and 95 taken off the road since the formation of the new City of London Police Commercial Vehicle Unit, which came into operation last month.

Drivers have been found guilty of non compliance and banned from driving for offences such as holding no insurance, unsafe tires, inappropriate licences, unsafe loads and inaccurate recording of drivers’ hours.

The unit, funded by Transport for London, works in partnership with the Metropolitan Police Service CV Unit and the Industrial HGV Task Force, which currently operate in the capital.
