Running 14th – 18th March, National Apprenticeship Week hosts a celebration of apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
In support of this celebration, Downton have focused their efforts on attracting young people into the industry by planting the seed in the early stages of their career. As part of their campaign, Downton delivered a presentation at Rednock School to educate their students on the exciting career opportunities within the Logistics industry, and have made further contact with all secondary schools within Gloucestershire.
Downton launched their apprenticeship scheme in September 2014 having realised early on that a reliance on migrant workers is not a long-term solution, and as a result last year pledged to employ 20 new apprentices each year.
Despite only running the apprenticeship programme for less than two years, Downton have already hired 22 apprentices through the scheme, targeting two new apprentices every six weeks and will be holding its second annual Apprenticeships Open Day in summer 2016 to introduce new potential candidates to the business.
