Downton is undertaking a significant programme of investment across the business to support its growing requirements for new and existing contracts.
Among the major investments recently made by Downton is the acquisition of 180 new Cartwright double-deck and hydraulic deck trailers, including longer-length and aerodynamic versions. This was followed by the recent acquisition of 100 new DAF tractor units to replace a number of Downton’s existing vehicles.
Downton has also invested in a new Microlise transport management system, which is now in place across the entire business network. It provides in-cab telematics for Downton’s 500-strong vehicle fleet, and has the potential to deliver cost efficiencies of around six per cent across the business.
At the Downton headquarters in Moreton Valence, Downton has also been investing in its working environment, with a new Operations Centre built to house the business’ operations, human resources, recruitment and compliance teams. This followed major refurbishment works earlier in the year, which saw the construction of a brand new gatehouse at the Moreton Valence site, and the installation of new security barriers.
