LGV ‘convoy’ technology investigated by DfT

Technology firms have been asked to respond to a tender that could see up to 10 lorries travel in convoy, controlled by a single driver.

A feasibility study will be published shortly to see if a convoy on motorways – by a process called ‘electronic coupling’ – is a possibility.

A DfT spokesman confirmed it was looking into the technology: “We regularly review advances in transport technology to help us understand the benefits or risks it might create if deployed in the UK”.
