LGVs with auto-gearboxes to be allowed in tests from January

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) will allow the use of automatic gearboxes in practical LGV tests from January 2014.

Those that take the test in an automatic truck will also receive a manual licence if they already hold a manual entitlement for cars, buses or lorries, with or without a trailer.

The result of a recent consultation into the proposals revealed that over half (52%) of the 339 respondents supported the decision to allow drivers to transfer automatic licences to manual if they already hold a manual entitlement for other vehicles.
