Increased speed limit trial gets go-ahead in Scotland

The Scottish Parliament has approved a pilot scheme to trial 50mph speed limits for HGVs travelling on the single-carriageway A9 in Scotland.

Approved this week by the Infrastructure and Capital Investment Committee, vehicles over 7.5 tonnes will now be able to travel at 50mph rather than 40mph on the A9 between Perth and Inverness.

The scheme is estimated to save nearly half a million vehicle hours over the course of the three year trial, and has been introduced as part of a package of safety improvements to the A9.
