Impact of stowaways an “exaggeration”, says FSDF chief

The Food Storage & Distribution Federation (FSDF) has described claims that the UK supply chain is in danger of collapsing due to delays caused by migrants stowaways passing through Calais as an “exaggeration”.

Calls for action have been made by the Freight Transport Association (FTA), who argue that the UK government should put more pressure on French authorities to crack down on the migrant issue. FSDF chief executive Chris Sturman, however, suggested that the impact of stowaways  is “relatively small and localised”.

Mr Sturman did note that the number of goods-in-transit insurance claims has increased in the last 12 months relative to previous years.
