Horsepower aims to get women into haulage

Truck drivers Nathalie Axon and Jan Carter have launched a new HGV training school – Horsepower (www.horsepowerwoman.co.uk) – designed to get more women interested in the logistics industry.  At present, less than one per cent of HGV drivers are female.

Horsepower encourages women to undertake HGV training through a series of taster days run by qualified HGV drivers.  The taster days will allow potential drivers to experience driving modern HGVs and speak to female “mentors” and local operators about the reality of life behind the wheel.

The industry has come under the spotlight over recent weeks following concerns over a shortage of driver CPC qualified drivers.
