Downton, one of the
South West region's premier distribution and storage companies operating
throughout the UK, emerged from a £16 investment in a gravel carrying
tipper lorry. It was Conrad Downton, wholeheartedly supported by his wife Anne, who made that purchase back in 1955 and now the next generation, his sons, Andrew, Richard and John, operate a friendly, reliable, comprehensive and professional delivery and warehouse service, second to none. Since the early days, Downton have been involved with major project developments such as the building of the M5, construction of approach roads to the Severn Bridge, and the development of the Avonmouth to Gloucester gas main, and this long established expertise continues to be in demand today. During the early 1970s the company diversified away from construction and purchased their first articulated lorry. The company rapidly developed, backed by key contracts from major drinks clients such as Bass, Whitbread and Unigate. Downton has now grown to become one of the premier distribution companies in the UK, servicing all major sectors. |
