Highways England reveals plans for charge-as-you-drive ‘electric motorway’ trials

Highways England has announced plans to launch a trail which could result in ‘electric motorways’ across Britain. The plans would allow motorists to recharge their cars whilst driving using technology built under the country’s motorways and major A roads.

A feasibility study has already been carried out for the project and companies are now being asked to tender bids to carry out off-road trails.

Highways England has said it aims to run off-road experiments for approximately 18 months before considering whether to begin on road trials.
