At a supplier event in Birmingham on 29 September, Highways England laid out plans for £1.8 billion of road improvements across the West Midlands.
The upgrades are part of wider government proposals to triple the level of spending on the UK’s road by 2020. They include a smart motorway around the M42/M40 interchange and improvements to several junctions of the M6 and M1.
The fund will also be used for necessary road maintenance, environmental improvements and provision for cyclists.
