Haulage stowaway issue needs to be addressed, says James Paice MP

James Paice, MP for South East Cambridgeshire, has drawn attention to the cost the supply chain incurs each year as a result of stowaways attempting to enter the UK hidden in vehicles. 

Speaking during a House of Lords debate, Mr Paice noted that criminals were relying on goods vehicles to smuggle immigrants into the country; potentially contaminating food produce and putting huge pressures on retailers. 

The home secretary has been urged to address the issue, with Mr Paice identifying a recent case whereby a lorry load of cabbages was immediately condemned after four men were found in the back of a supplier’s vehicle.
