Harsher penalties for drivers found using mobile phones

The Government has announced plans to impose harsher penalties on drivers caught using mobile phones at the wheel.

Proposals announced last week mean that all motorists caught using hand-held devices while driving will receive four penalty points, up from three, and a fixed penalty of £150, up from £100.

Reflecting the increased potential for harm, HGV drivers will receive six penalty points, and a fixed penalty of £150.
