The DVSA has confirmed that, since the inception of the HGV Road User Levy nine months ago, nearly half a million pounds in fines have been issued to operators who have failed to pay the charge.
Alastair People, chief executive of the DVSA, hailed the system as a “huge success”, adding that most UK-based hauliers have complied with the levy.
The DVSA has utilised its ANPR camera network and continued roadside checks to assist with enforcing the levy. In its first six months it generated £23.4m in revenue, according to transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin.
