Government ‘national networks’ plan gets industry thumbs up

The government’s ‘National Policy Statement for National Networks’, which emphasises the need for development of the UK’s strategic road and rail network, has been welcomed by leading industry trade organisations.

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) and Rail Freight Group (RFG) have spoken out in support of the publication, which says the improvement of our key networks is vital to relieve congestion on roads, reduce rail overcrowding, support economic growth and improve safety, environmental impact and accessibility.

The paper – accessible from the Department for Transport website here – is the result of a year-long public consultation on the draft National Networks National Policy Statement (NNNPS).

The consultation sought feedback from 5,800 respondents from local authorities, environmental groups, operators and transport groups.
