Government endorses out-of-hours deliveries to protect cyclists

The Department for Transport (DfT) has supported the introduction of new guidance on out-of-hours deliveries, arguing that reducing the number of HGV’s in busy areas at peak times could play a key role in increasing road safety for cyclists. 

The Transport Committee had called for more to be done by operators to tackle road user safety in its summer report on cycling. 

Last month the Labour Party argued that smarter management of the UK road network is one of its transport priorities, also backing out-of-hours deliveries.
