Chancellor George Osborne has agreed to meet MPs from Kent to discuss possible long-term alternatives to Operation Stack.
The meeting request came from Damian Collins, Folkestone and Hythe MP, whose constituency is affected by the traffic jams resulting from disruption in the Channel Tunnel.
The use of Manston Airport has been put forward as a temporary solution to alleviate congestion, however Kent MPs have also suggested more long-term solutions involving additional investment.
Commenting on the subject, Transport Minister Robert Goodwill has said the key to preventing a repeat of this summer’s chaos at Dover and Calais is “sorting out the issues in France”.
