The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has reacted to the DVLA’s plans to introduce a new licence checking system this summer.
The Government is abolishing the paper counterpart that currently accompanies all UK photocard licences after 8 June this year.
The FTA has previously voiced its concerns, warning that freight operators have a legal obligation to check their drivers’ licences several times a year. The FTA commented that the planned changes will make licence checking extremely difficult, and that the proposed online system is not robust enough to cope with industry demands.
