FTA and RHA criticise government for failing to invest in new drivers


The Freight Transport Association (FTA) and the Road Haulage Association (RHA) have criticised the government for failing to back calls for an HGV driver training fund in the Autumn Statement. 

The RHA requested a £150m driver training fund to tackle the industry’s skills shortage, but this failed to make the Chancellor’s Spending Review. 

The FTA estimates that around 45,000 new drivers are needed in the industry.
