Citing a report by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR), FairFuelUK (FFUK) has issued a statement saying that the government’s fuel duty model is broken.
It comes ahead of next week’s Autumn Statement, in which FFUK has asked for a 3ppl cut to fuel duty.
The CEBR report – Assessing the Impact of Lower Prices on the UK Economy – showed that the lower price of both petrol and diesel in 2015 boosted the economy and created jobs. The research has claimed haulage companies will have saved £7,200 over the past year on the cost of operating a 44-tonne truck after the drop in the price of Brent crude oil since June 2014.
FFUK said the research disproves the suggestion that high fuel taxes are good for the economy.
