European Council to push members to provide alternative fuel stations

The European Council has formally adopted rules to ensure the creation of more refuelling points for vehicles using alternative fuels by 2020.

The EC has encouraged member states to come up with a set of targets for the rollout of such facilities by the end of 2016, under the new rules adopted on 29 September.

As part of the proposals, the EC expects member states to provide at least one electric vehicle recharging point per ten electric vehicles by 2020, with a common plug being used across the EU; in addition to the provision of liquefied natural gas points and compressed natural gas refuelling points by 2025.
