The DVSA has issued more than 500 immediate prohibitions to commercial vehicles for fuel tank leaks since it began to crack down on the problem last year.
518 immediate prohibitions were made between 1 September and 31 December 2014. This represents a significant increase on the previous quarter, with only 75 prohibitions being issued between May and August of last year.
Since September the DVSA has been issuing only immediate prohibitions for fuel system defects or spillages.
