DVSA fails to curb rising HGV driving test waiting times

Two-thirds of Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) test centres have seen an increase in the average waiting time for vocational examinations, according to data obtained by Motor Transport via a Freedom of Information request.

The statistics show that 33 of the 49 centres offering HGV driver tests have seen an increase in waiting times, with average waiting times rising 75 per cent in the past 11 months.

Meanwhile, the latest Department for Transport (DfT) figures show a 40 per cent spike in the number of newly-qualified HGV drivers in Q1 2015, contrary to the long-term trend of falling HGV licence acquisitions.
