DVLA licence checking service overwhelmed as counterpart is abolished

The DVLA this week discontinued the paper counterpart of the UK driving licence, with anyone wishing to check a licence now being directed to a new online system. 

The transition has seen early criticism, however, with users of the online system making complaints about delays and other usability problems. 

The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) noted that it has received complaints specifically from the staff at vehicle rental branches, who complained about “severed delays” in accessing the DVLA’s checking system.
