The sixth Giffnock Soccer Centre Football Festival – the largest annual football gathering in Scotland – took place over two weekends in June with support from sponsors including CM Downton. The event has grown so much that it is now held over two weekends with an 11-a-side tournament held on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 of June and the 4-a-side, 7-a-side, girls and disability football competitions held the following weekend. Several thousand spectators were present at the venue is Glasgow to see the teams from across Scotland as well as Denmark, Norway and England taking part. Downton sponsored two trophies.
The annual festival of football is major date on the fixture list for Giffnock Soccer Centre which was formed in 1995 by a group of fathers who wanted to teach children the basics of football in a safe and fun environment. The organisation is one of the largest of its type in the UK with over 800 boys and girls in teams which participate in a number of local and regional leagues with help from more than 120 volunteers. A number of former players have gone on to forge successful careers as professionals with teams throughout Scotland.
