Downton Runs world’s largest Half Marathon in aid of national charity

Team Downton participated in the Great North Run on Sunday 11th September, raising over £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Downton’s team flocked to North East England to join celebrities such as Olympian Mo Farah and runners from across the world in what has been named the ‘world’s biggest half marathon’.

Starting in Newcastle upon Tyne, the 13.1 mile route took runners through the city centre towards the River Tyne and across the iconic Tyne Bridge. From there runners travelled through Gateshead through to to South Shields, where at the top of Prince Edward Road the view of the sea is one of the most welcoming sights along the whole course. From that point the runners made their way down the final straight towards the finish gantry.

Mark Alford came out top completing the race in 1 hour 58 minutes, with Sharon Hobson in 2 hours 9 minutes, Allison Preece in 2 hours 18 minutes, Heather Battersby 2 hours 30 minutes and Mark Pyrah in 2 hours and 45 minutes.
