To cater for a recent increase in orders and new business contracts, Downton is building a £1.5 million extension at its Quedgeley warehouse.
The extension will add an extra 27,000 sq ft to the facility, located on the Quedgeley West Business Park, Gloucestershire. Downton already has 100,000 sq ft of warehousing space on the site, which is used as a UK distribution centre for several clients.
The construction is being managed by local firm Barnwood Construction, based in Gloucester.
Downton managing director, Andy Downton said: “The expansion of the warehouse marks the final phase of development of our Quedgeley depot. It comes at the end of a great year for the business in which we’ve seen a huge uplift in orders from existing clients and number of business wins, including a new contract with the Plastics division of European packaging giant DS Smith.
“The decision to work with our supplier, Barnwood Construction, was a very easy one. The work done by Barnwood Construction has been exceptional and we’re hoping to have the project wrapped up in the New Year.”
The expansion of the Quedgeley depot follows a major fleet investment. Last month Downton purchased 50 new tractor units and 60 new curtain-sided trailers in a series of deals worth in excess of £4.5 million.
