Downton backs Government’s #PassTheTorch Campaign

The #PassTheTorch campaign is a Government initiative that offers employers the opportunity to showcase their commitment to 3 million apprenticeships by 2020 by pledging to recruit apprentices.

The torch, which symbolises the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next, will be making appearances at business events throughout the coming months having began its journey at the National Apprenticeship Awards in London on the 26th January 2016, and made appearances during National Apprenticeship Week that ran Nationally from 14th – 18th March.

Commissioned by the Skills Funding Agency, the torch was created by QinetiQ Apprentices at MoD Boscombe Down in March 2015. This Olympic-syle torch features a cone shape surrounded by a spiral, representing expansion of knowledge.  The body of the torch is made of brass, aluminium and carbon fibre to represent the progression of materials through the years.

As proud supporters of the ‪#‎PasstheTorch‬ campaign, we presented our apprenticeship journey to local employers on Thursday 14th April at an event hosted by Clarkson Evans that provided the opportunity for businesses to find out about the benefits of employing apprentices, and to inspire the next generation of businesses to get involved. As a result, a collective pledge was made to recruit 83 new ‪#‎apprentices.
