Downton backing UK’s first National Lorry Week

CM Downton is pleased to be supporting the inaugural ‘National Lorry Week’ – a new nationwide campaign by the Road Haulage Association (RHA) to promote the logistics industry to the rest of the UK. 

The nationwide campaign will be running from 26 to 31 October to highlight the indispensable role the haulage industry plays in our everyday lives. Over 85 per cent of goods transported in the UK are carried by lorries, with the logistics industry itself making up a large part of the UK economy.

This year’s theme is “Love the Lorry”.  Hauliers across the country will be giving members of the public the chance to go behind the scenes of life as a skilled HGV driver. Events will be taking place nationwide throughout half term allowing families to meet HGV drivers and operators, get up close to their vehicles and learn about the opportunities that a career in the logistics industry can offer.  

There will also be a ‘spot the sticker’ competition taking place across the UK. Members of the public who post photographs on Twitter of trailers featuring the “Love the Lorry” sticker using the hashtags #NationalLorryWeek and #LoveTheLorry will be entered into the competition – with the grand prize of £1,000 awarded to one lucky winner.

The RHA also will be hosting a reception in Parliament for MPs and Ministers to talk about current problems faced by the road haulage industry and there will be high-profile radio and television coverage of the campaign.  Contributing £74.5 billion to the UK economy, it is vital that the industry’s concerns are heard by politicians.
