The Department for Transport (DfT) is about to publish arrangements for the allocation of the UK’s strategy salt supply, according to transport minister Norman Baker.
Baker stated that the ‘strategic salt protocol’ will be published in early October, setting out the arrangements for the allocation of strategic salt and its cost.
A recent salty audit by the DfT suggested that the restocking of salt supplies by local highway authorities is already underway, with analysis showing we are approaching winter “with a good supply”, according to Baker.
His comments follow the announcement of a new inquiry into the UK transport systems resilience to winder conditions, being carried out by the Commons Transport Committee.
