The future of the Highways Agency consultation launched

A consultation into restructuring the Highways Agency into a government-owned company, similar to Network Rail, by 2015, has been welcomed by the Road Haulage Association (RHA). 

The reforms are part of the Government’s Action for Roads strategy and are intended to allow the Highways Agency to operate with “more certainty, commercial flexibility and greater independence from government”. 

The proposals would see the management of the Strategic Roads Network pass to the new government-owned company, allowing the company to make decisions without the constraints of government.
