Motor Transport Awards 2012

The Motor Transport Awards is the undisputed highlight of the logistics industry’s calendar. The event has grown significantly over its near thirty-year history, overshadowing and eventually replacing all other logistics events. Not only is it the leading event of its kind in logistics, it is now one of the largest awards events of any industry sector in the UK.

2012 saw the 27th annual awards ceremony take place at London’s Grosvenor House hotel. Attended by nearly 1,500 guests representing over 500 of the industry’s leading companies, the 2012 Awards were the biggest and best attended to date, with dozens of companies entering for the chance to win one of the sector’s most prestigious accolades.

Of the 18 different awards on offer, one stands above the others as the most coveted and competitive: Haulier of the Year. According to the category definition, it is awarded to “the outstanding road haulage or 3PL company” of that year.

To win, say the judges, companies need to show not only strong financial results, but also a “tremendous all-round commitment” to professionalism, customer care, safety, training and environment.

Competition for Haulier of the Year is fierce, and the submission criteria for the award are, as a result, very demanding. In addition to demonstrating to judges an all-round excellence across the business, entering firms need to provide full audited accounts for three years, VOSA OCRS details, two years’ worth of accident and incident rates and proof of reduced carbon emissions. In addition, entrants need to provide evidence of high levels of customer satisfaction in the form of contact details for five different customers – to be contacted by the judges during the assessment process.

Previous winners of the event’s top gong include logistics giants Eddie Stobart, DHL and TNT – companies sitting at the very top of a highly competitive industry.
