Boris proposes new safety measures for London’s lorries

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has put forward new safety proposals for HGVs operating in the capital, calling for extra windows to be fitted in the lower half of the passenger-side cab door.

Mr Johnson argues that the new side windows would help to reduce the danger posed by HGVs to other road users by giving drivers better visibility of pedestrians and cyclists.

A consultation on the proposals is ongoing but should they get the go ahead, the cost to fit the windows to existing and new lorries could range from £1,000 to £1,500 per vehicle.
