Drivers taking their normal 45-hour weekend rests in their trucks in Belgium are set to be subjected to heavy fines. The Road Haulage Associated (RHA) has warned drivers that from 21 June, hauliers caught on Belgian soil taking their weekend rest in their cabs are susceptible to a potential fine of 1,800 Euros (£1,440).
It has emerged that France are exploring the possibility of adopting the same rules, but with a higher penalty.
The RHA has advised operators to consider the penalties when reviewing any contracts they are about to make in areas in which a weekend rest is expected to take place.
