Authorities urged not the ‘demonise’ diesel

At a recent conference held by vehicle manufacturers’ association the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT), central government and local authorities have been asked to encourage the take-up of clean diesel trucks.

SMMT CEO Mike Hawes said that while alternative fuels are available, diesel is currently the only practical fuel for trucks and most vans, and shouldn’t be “demonised”.

According to the SMMT, there are 4.4 million commercial vehicles on the road and 99 per cent are powered by diesel.
